Libyan man denied bail after arrest in Ħamrun drug trafficking case
A 36-year-old Libyan man has been arrested in Ħamrun after police on patrol allegedly observed him passing a package containing suspected drugs to another individual [1][2]. The arrest took place on Thursday at around 3.30pm in Trejqet San Pietru, where officers immediately stopped the man and conducted a search on the spot [1].
During the initial search, police discovered a significant haul of illicit materials, including 28 packets of suspected synthetic drugs, a knuckle duster, and an undisclosed amount of cash [1][2]. The investigation did not conclude with the street arrest, as a follow-up search was carried out at the suspect's residence in Triq il-Farfett, Marsa, where the majority of the drugs were discovered [3]. Officers uncovered additional suspected synthetic drugs, blocks of suspected cannabis resin, and other items linked to drug trafficking [1][3].
The 36-year-old suspect appeared in court before Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit to face charges related to the drug trafficking allegations [1]. During the court proceedings, the evidence presented to the court included the significant quantity of suspected drugs recovered from his Marsa residence [3]. Following the hearing, the court has denied bail for the accused in connection with the drug possession and trafficking offences [3].
